Laid Back Camp has been on my mind lately… Last week I finished the manga, and then my wife asked my to help her find some music from it. Along the way, I found some fun cover versions and decided to share them here.
So, get comfy and hit the jump!
Grr…. My first choice has been “disabled by the owner from viewing on other websites”. So, yeah, no. Your loss mate. I don’t play that game.
Sadly, the Yuru Camp OST has been pulled from YouTube (which is what started this search) so I can’t identify this tune… But it’s lovely, and appears often. (Particularly at the climax of Episode 5 – “Two Camps, Two Campers’ Views”.)
That was the funny part about reading the manga, I could hear a lot of the musical cues in my head.
Going through the links I found last night, and I find the first one is a full length version of the first one! I guess that says a lot about what I think about Campsite Theme: Lake Motosuko, it is one of my favorites. But then I think I could say that about half the tracks on the OST album.
A jazzy instrumental cover of “Shiny Days”… I think I actually prefer this to the original. Unlike a lot of folks, I’ve never really been a fan of the original tune. Might be the deliberate Jackson 5 references, back in the 70’s I didn’t care for them too much either.
And if you want to talk 70’s, this instrumental cover sounds more 70’s than the original… I can almost imagine to jammin’ to it right on the cusp of the Disco Era. Shame that disco and synth killed the almost orchestral arrangement of the early/mid 70’s.
We’ll close this out with an absolutely lovely cover of Fuyu Biyori, my absolutely favorite piece of music from the series. One of the very few times I’ve ever sat and listened to an ED.

That’s really interesting. I won’t get around to actually listening to them until, maybe, Wensday, but I’m really curious.

I find the traditional instrumentation fits the tune better, though both are really well arranged and performed. I prefer the first version.
The jazzy Shiny Days is interesting. I like the percussion section, and the sax is the perfect insturment for the tune. Really well played, too. (Is the sax double-tracked for the verse only? Sounds like it to me, but I’m unsure. If so, that’s an unusual choice, but – well – I don’t really have an ear for the production side – which I know from watching music theory videos on youtube and usually frown in concentration and/or confusion on what I’m supposed to hear.) The other version feels more standard, though the choice of a melodica for the lead instrument is interesting and fitting. It’s got a good drive, though (and I especially like the keyboard on this).
And talk about ending on a strong note. That’s a really lovely version of the ED. A really nice sound. I don’t recognise the woodwind instrument. Is that soprano sax maybe?

I prefer the jazzier arrangement for Shiny Days… But the second one is more like the original “done right” if that makes sense. The original was just too conventional, and (intentionally) obvious in it’s callbacks.
Both ED’s are in my permanent collection, I love the hell out of both of them. And I’d gladly add this version too… Finding it is what really kicked off this whole post.
I have no idea what instrument that is… I wouldn’t know if it hit me in the face.
