It’s the second anniversary of my anime music playlist post… So it seems the proper time to give a modest update with the songs added from shows that aired in 2019. Probably the closest I’ll come to a “year in anime” post. (I’m not even trying any “of the decade” posts.)
So, let’s hit the jump and look at the winners!
O Maidens in Your Savage Season
Araburu Kisetsu no Otome-domo yo – CHiCO with HoneyWorks
(Lyrics in subtitles)
Just… a simple, lovely, song.
Cop Craft
Rakuen Toshi – Masayoshi Ōishi
I wanted to include the OP here, because it’s one of my favorites this year.
The full version has a pretty darned impressive official video. (Lyrics in subtitles)
I think this is also the first anime OP tune I’ve ever heard with jazzy/60’s vibe to it… When I posted it to my personal FB, one of my cousins thought it sounded kinda “Barry Manilow(ish)” and I think he may be on to something there.
Girly Air Force
Break the Blue!! – Run, Girls, Run!
Dropped the anime, kept the tune… Go figure. I went with the official OP video rather than full video because the dancing is so much more dynamic and energetic. (And this song is all about energy!)
Promised Neverland
Touch Off – UVERworld
As with Cop Craft, I wanted to include the OP because it’s simply so fantastic.
The full version, for the sake of completeness.

When I sat down to write this… I was certain there had to be more, but looks like these four are all there is. No sweat, when it comes to my music playlists I’m into quality (things I enjoy), not quantity.
Speaking of playlists, a few months back someone on Twitter was asking how many Sword Art Online tunes folks had in their playlist. When I looked at mine, I realized it was less of a Sword Art collection and more of a subset of a Yuuki Kajiura/Kalafina collection. (Just seemed like the place to toss that out.)
Anyhow, what were your favorite OP or OST tunes in 2019? As always, drop a comment and let’s chat!
I keep the playlist I made you last year up to date :) A few musings songs since Spotify doesn’t have them, or removed them, but other than that. Enjoyed reading and I’ll enjoy listening too! :)

Those are great openings (I tend to always include the opening, since I rarely even check out the full versions). Girly Air Force does have a nice opening; I can’t have heard it more than once, and if I dropped out before the opening (possible due to CGI planes making me ill), I might have never heard it.
Out of those, I’d say my favourite is Cop Craft. I don’t know Barry Manilow well enough to judge the comparison, but my hunch is that it’s little more than the latin rhythms. But, yeah, I don’t really know Barry Manilow.
I think my favourite of the year might be the Wasteful Days of Highschool Girls opening, with it’s talky chaos, simple, jokey tune and chaotic rhythms. It was too perfect for the show.
Either that or Lord El-Melloi II Case Files: Rail Zeppelin Grace Note, but that’s almost cheating – it’s an instrumental by Yuki Kajiura.

It’s… more the way he styles his vocals. It’s kinda hard to explain, some actually musical person might have the vocabulary but I don’t.
I loved the OP too… But when I listened to whole song, I didn’t like the song quite enough.
I checked out the Zepplin Grace OP, and that is lovely.

Oh wow these are some great songs! The only one I had heard before was Touch Off but I have to say, all of these are quite good. Quite liked the CHiCO with HoneyWorks one

Neverland was definitely right up there as one of my favorites, though nothing ever came close to dethroning “Love Dramatic” from Kaguya-sama as my #1 for the year. I’ll have to listen to the others when I have time, though I remember liking that Girly Air Force track for the one episode that I watched. The other OP that definitely has to be somewhere on my list was “Fire” from Dororo.

I only ever watched the first ep of Kaguya-sama, but I do recall thinking the OP was nice. I always watch the OP with the first ep, it’s not till the second or third that the ones I always listen to and the ones I tend to skip start differentiating themselves.
Definitely interested in your thoughts on the others.

Oh, I also loved Cop Craft’s opening! Maybe its because of the jazzy feel and vocals of the song? Out of all of those great choices, Cop Craft would be my go-to opening :)

That’s one of the reasons I loved it too! The jazzy feeling makes me want to just bounce along with it.
Thanks for dropping by and welcome to the Lounge!

Lessee…Aside from duplicates of yours, I have (these are just the ones that made the biggst impression on me this year which are also in the Spotify playlist I have)…
* Kizuato – Centimilimental (Given)
* Mukanjyo – Survive Said the Prophet (Vinland Saga)
* Thought I Knew (ft. ra’z and Hayes) – YVY (Stand My Heroes) – This song sounds a bit weird at first, but it’s actually quite compatible with what I usually listen to in Western music, so it’s been getting quite a bit of circulation.
* Motor City – Kenichi Asai (No Guns Life)

Sorry for the late(ish) reply, busy over New Years!
Checked out a couple of those, and they do sound interesting.
Kind of the same reason I like Rakuen Toshi? (Which also has a familiar(ish) Western vibe.)
