Anime Playlist – Laid Back Camp

As an anime season winds down, I start thinking about what music to add to my anime playlist. Winter 2021 is no exception, and yields some fine music indeed. And with so many sequels, it also lets me get caught up some on my backlog of Playlist posts!

So, without further ado, let’s hit the jump and listen to some laid back music!

Season 1

Fuyu Biyori (A Sunny Winter Day)
Eri Sasaki

There were a lot of people seriously jammin’ to the OP, Shiny Days…  But it never really did anything for me.  Maybe it’s because I actually grew up with the 70’s music that inspired it?

But man, the ED…  So chill.  So relaxing.  So perfect to end the show with.

If the album wasn’t $14.99, I’d be tempted to buy it just for some of the background music.  On the other hand…  A lot of the individual tracks are just $0.69!  Will have to ponder on that.

Sorokyanpu No Susume
Akiyuki Tateyama

I mean, this lovely little tune isn’t on my playlist, but I kind of feel like it should be, y’know?

Season 2

Seize the Day
Asaka

I am not at all sure what the video’s plot has to do with camping, laid back or not…  But it’s a fun bouncy song and I knew it was going on my playlist by the third episode or so.

The OP itself has a number of fun easter eggs in it, most of which I missed until folks pointed them out over the last couple of weeks:

Laid Back Camp - Season 2 - OP - Rin's pictures.⇒ Each week, the pictures Rin is looking at on her phone with Ena are from the previous week’s episode.  In the first episode, they were from the season 1 finale.

Laid Back Camp - Season 2 - OP - Nadeshiko at the Caribou⇒ In the shot with the girls at the Caribou camping goods store, where is Nadeshiko?  Look in the upper right corner – she’s looking at her beloved retro lantern.  (Which I also want.  I have no need, but I want!)

⇒ And the back half of the OP is basically a teaser trailer for the Izu camping arc that closes out the season.

Haru no Tonari (Next to Spring)
Eri Sasaki

Last but not least…  The season 2 ED is, like the season 1 ED, a perfectly chill piece of music.  Just right for the end of an episode.

It’s pretty cool that in the video, the singer is going camping with a cute little pup.  Between that and the nighttime view, whoever scripted the video pretty obviously is familiar with the anime.

I’m looking forward to next week’s finale, but sad that the season is coming to an end.  Crossing my fingers that a new season will soon be announced!

  1. The music is such an important part of the show’s mood; it’s really always appropriate to what you’re seeing. Which probably also means that not everything’s worth getting onto a playlist. Hmm… I’ve never actually thought about this.

    1. You’re absolutely correct, a good OP (and good OP music) helps set the mood. But what goes on my playlist is what I want to listen to. What I personally enjoy.

  2. You know, when I was growing up we had several glass chimney oil-burning lanterns in our house – my parents took them out and used them whenever the power went out (and I’ll bet with California’s rolling blackouts last year they came in handy again). I suppose they are retro now, but to me they’re just lanterns! Still, I never actually noticed Nadeshiko in that part of the intro before – Chiaki’s eyes darting around have always been what grabbed my attention there. I did catch the cellphone pics, though.

I liked the animation better in the first OP, but I’ve decided I do like the second OP’s song better. I was kinda on the fence about that for a while, but it’s definitely grown on me a lot.

And yes, that OST #4 is classic. Definitely the first piece of music I think of when I think of this series. I also really like OST #17 too.

So did we… (Grew up in hurricane country) and I have the glass from a candle version sitting in my kitchen. Got put in the wrong box when we moved (five years ago!) and I keep forgetting to take it to storage.

But yeah, they’re retro nowadays. Most gas lanterns use mantles and cylindrical glass and I don’t think I’ve seen an oil one in roughly forever. When we used to go camping with the medieval group, lots of folks used the gas type for cooking and whatnot and swapped to candle lanterns for evening hanging about.

When I was picking one tune as an example – I narrowed it down to #4 or #17…

    1. Sorry for the belated reply… Been under the weather the last couple of days.

Yeah, I like music that get’s me going – but there’s just something about music that settles you down. Does that make sense?
