Anime Playlist – NANA

If, like me, you’re a fan of the classic anime NANA – there was very good news indeed this week.  After years of being unavailable, HiDive will start streaming it next Thursday (22nd of April)!

My wife and I have already decided we’ll be watching it regularly, as our schedule allows.  Haven’t seen it since it left Netflix oh-so-many years ago, can’t wait to see it again!

Anyhow, that means it’s a fine time for another edition of Anime Playlist!

Hit the jump and get ready to rock!

I need your love
I’m a broken rose.
Oh baby, help me from frozen pain
With your smile, your eyes,
And sing just for me

No collection of NANA songs is complete…  No.  No collection of NANA songs is possible without the incredible Rose.  For me, this is the anime’s defining tune.

Olivia inspi’ Reira (Trapnest) – WISH

Can you feel it now
Can you feel it now
I feel as if I’m being swallowed by a wave
Pulling on my heart
Pulling on my heart

Though I am loathe to admit it… When I first put together my playlist way back when, this song was not on it. But week after week it would pop up in our weekly Anime Music Quiz game and eventually I listened to the whole thing and fell madly in love with it.

AMQ is great fun and we’re a friendly bunch, so feel free to stop by and join in! As a weekly social outlet, it’s been a huge part of keeping me (relatively) sane over the last year…

I’ll show you my strength now
I’ll show you my love now
I’ll show you everything yeah yeah
Baby don’t be afraid

Another tune that was not on my original list… But over the last couple of days I’ve been listening to Nana Best on iTunes, and I just kept coming back to it. After the fourth or fifth time I just gave in and bought it.

If you haven’t seen it, I also have a post of Nana AMV’s.  You should go check it out.

I fully expect once we get into the show to add to this list…  There’s quite a bit of insert music and I haven’t even started on the ED’s.

Anyhow, what you think of these songs?  Are you looking forward to watching the anime?  Drop a comment and let’s chat!

  1. I read Nana as a manga, but do love the OPs! Anna and Olivia are both amazing. Thanks for sharing – that live version of “Rose” was so hype!
Random tangent: when I was trying hard to train myself to lucid dream some time ago, I associated a handful of songs on my playlist with doing a reality check for whether I’m still awake, and “Wish” was one of them. It has that ethereal feel to it.

    1. A couple of years back, I bought a bunch of the manga from a friend who was downsizing… Was planning on finally reading them this summer, guess I’ll wait until after the show airs now.

It’ll be airing in Australia, so you can watch it now if you want! The perfect thing for those coming winter nights.

I can see what you’re saying about “Wish” having ethereal bits too it… At least between the rocking bits. :)

  2. Ooh, so Nana’s on Hidive now? That’s good news (though it’s not going to make my region).

And Rose is such a staple. I agree; it’s the series’ defining song.

    1. Yeah, I looked where it was streaming and though I can’t recall if you wanted to watch it or not, noticed you weren’t getting it. Which kinda sucks. It’s such an odd mix of European countries.

Rose also reminds me of the rock I grew up on in the early 70’s. So it speaks strongly to me.
