OK… what else did you think I was going to choose as the lead image for this post? What’s better imagery for heading into the new season than a girl taking her best friend and dragging her off into new adventures? (Not fooling anyone am I?)
Anyhow, hit the jump and let’s take a look at the upcoming sequels.
The shows that I’m watching are in bold, shows my wife and I are watching together are in bold italics, strikethrough marks dropped shows and (*) marks shows that are watched but not regularly reviewed.
Yama no Susume: Next Summit
Encouragement of Climb: Next Summit
It’s traditional for me to say that these aren’t in any sort of order… And it’s equally traditional to kinda sorta ignore that to some degree. And anyhow, anyone that’s known me for any length of time already knows what my most anticipated show is this season.
I was over the moon when the fourth season was announced. And even higher when it was announced that this time around it wouldn’t be a short – the mountain climbing girls are getting full length episodes!
Only eight of them because the first four are re-caps and side stories, but I’ll take whatever I can get.
(Truth is, the next batch are mostly ordered by airdate because that’s my default sort on livechart.me… I’m just scrolling down the page there as I make entries here.)
Boku no Hero Academia 6th Season
My Hero Academia Season 6
When we last saw Class 1-A, an enormous battle was brewing between the heroes and the Metahuman Liberation Front… And it ain’t gonna be pretty. Anticipation here is a mixture of anticipation and light dread. And some concern over pacing… MHA has an uneven record in that respect to put it mildly. But it’s going to run for two continuous cour rather than being split cour. So no need to insert any kind of break/cliffhanger…
Uzaki-chan wa Asobitai! ω
Uzaki-chan Wants to Hang Out! Season 2
Another “I have mixed feelings” sequel… But a different set from MHA. Uzaki-Chan was at it’s best when it was just Uzaki and Shinichi bugging the eff out of each other. But not all episodes were of the best. It’s was annoying when the side characters got involved – and this season adds more side characters.
SPY x FAMILY Cour 2

Spy X Family should have been AOTS back in the spring of this year. But it ended the penultimate episode with a season cliffhanger and closed out with a pair of side stories… Which meant it ended up coming in a close second when Ya Boy Kongming! turned in a stunning pair of episodes to close out it’s run.
But I’m not here to talk about Ya Boy, because they haven’t even announced a 2nd season. (Yet.) (I’m hoping.)
Like Yama no Susume, there’s no qualms or second thoughts here. I’m flat out, straight up looking forward to seeing more of these three.
And that wraps up the sequels! Only four because I wanted to get the traditional ten shows in Part II – Original Anime, coming Thurs or Fri. Of course, crossing my fingers and hoping I get 10 because that post isn’t even started yet.
EDIT: Part II (New Series) is up!
So, what are your thoughts on this season’s sequels? Drop a comment and let’s chat!
I don’t remember how much I watched of MHA; definitely two seasons; maybe all of season 3, half of it, or none? I can’t remember. Anyway, that’s been a while ago, so season 6 is out.
I don’t know why, but I’m still stuck half-time in Yama no Susume. One of these days I’ll continue, but probably not in time for me to pick up this season. And thus my backlog grows, if not by shows then by seasons. I really did enjoy what I saw of the show (not as much as you, but that’s not dissing the show).
Spy X Family is great. Curious about Bond the dog, who we briefly saw last season. And Uzaki-chan… I’ll watch it, it was fine. I have to admit, I don’t remember the side characters offhand; wait the bartender and her daughter as shipping team. I almost forgot them. Anyone else I’m missing? Shrug They definitely weren’t the highpoints of the show.
Also, Pop Team Epic, which is always really weird, and sometimes actually really funny. I’m definitely on board. Also, Golden Kamuy, which by this time just has me on board. I’ve always liked it at least a little, but it’s the sort of show that grew on me. Oh, and more Pui Pui Molcar; the stop-motion guineapig cars are back; if they appear on youtube again, I’ll definitely be back for more. And more Iruma-kun is nice, too.
I’ll also definitely watch Fumetsu no Anata e, which I enjoyed lots until the drag that was the final arc, and then again for the final episode. I’ll definitely watch that.
And above all other sequels, the one I’m looking forward to is Mob Psycho 100. I hear they’ll finish the story, so I assume Mob will have to finally face his 100 persona as the final boss? Anyway, I loved both previous seasons, and last season ended with a giant stalk of broccoli…
Similarly to Yama no Susume, there’s Yowamushi Pedal. I really enjoyed the first season, but am not caught up with any of the others.
That’s a lot of sequels, but I tend to judge a season by its new shows.

Re:Yowamushi Pedal I must admit I’m curious about it. But to me it’s a new anime – even though the upcoming season is just the latest in the franchise.
Re: YamaSu I hesitate to recommend catching up… It’s pretty darned niche even for CGDCT/CGDCT adjacent. But I would recommend at least getting through S2, which is the best of the show so far.
re: Spy X Family I got spoiled just a touch about the dog, so I don’t want to talk about him too much. But I will say it looks like Anya gets an actual partner and I’m looking forward to that.
re: Mob Psycho That’s definitely the show I’m hearing the most buzz about… It’s odd that Kamuy and Pop Team don’t seem to be getting much attention at all.

Sequels on my watch list:
Uzaki-chan wa Asobitai! 2nd Season
SPY x FAMILY Cour 2
Mobile Suit Gundam: Suisei no Majo (not sure if it counts as a sequel, more like the latest entry in a franchise)
Golden Kamuy 4th Season
Urusei Yatsura 2022 (guess this is more a remake/reboot than a sequel, but oh well…)
Fumetsu no Anata e Season 2

Swapping identities again? :)
For me, sequels are generally anything that is Sn. Standalone shows in the same franchise and reboots/remakes get filed under ‘new”. So, I talk about Witch from Mercury and Urusei Yatsura 2022 in the post that’s going up today.
Kinda surprised you didn’t comment on my comment on Spy X Family.

I self-identify as a homicidal supercomputer, for now.
I went back to see what bait I missed… nah, not even that controversial. I agree at the end of first season Spy x Family faded and Ya Boy Kongming! surged… I had them finishing in that order but fully recognize that it’s a judgment call.

We’d just discussed it briefly on either the Apprentice Mages FB page or my personal page, so I thought I’d draw your attention to it.
