There’s a ton of “what if ________ had an anime opening” videos out there… But this one goes above and beyond the call.

I know, I know. A couple of weeks back I said that “it’s unusual to use the music from one anime to make an AMV for another”…. But there’s actually a special case where that’s less unusual. Combining the OP track from one anime with footage from a second anime to create a crossover or parody opening sequence.
And why does Renge feature as my introductory image? You’ll have to hit the jump to find out!

Once again wandering around YouTube, I came across an interesting AMV… The beautiful and haunting “Lonely Feather” (from Asterisk War / Gakusen Toshi Asterisk) used for an AMV for Your Lie in April (Shigatsu wa Kimi no Uso).

I haven’t featured an AMV in quite a while, and I really shouldn’t be doing so with tomorrow’s post still just a raw mess of notes and incomplete thoughts. But when Remy posted 5 Things I Really Like Experiencing in Anime this morning, this AMV immediately leapt to mind.
The things my mind does while still on it’s first cup of coffee…
It actually is a decent AMV. I particularly like how the creator matched the action to the lyrics, and tied it back to the original video. Though he misses in a couple of places towards the end, he does an amazing job of matching the lip flaps to the voices. That’s editing work above and beyond the call.
For reference this is the original (Discovery Channel) version, one of them at any rate… there are several, but this is the version that matches best I think.
Anyhow, now that you’re earwormed too what do you think? Let me know down in the comments!
After this week’s ep of re:Creators somebody (I forget who and where) spoke of the protagonists getting ready for the “final battle”. What with the oddly veering way my mind often works, that made me think of Europe’s 1986 single – The Final Countdown.
So, on a whim, off I went to YouTube to see what if any AMV’s there might be set to that tune. And lo and behold – there were. Hundreds of them… and predictably virtually all of them stuck to the “Final Battle” trope. Out of curiosity I kept paging through and found this little gem – the creator has reimagined Girls Dead Monster (from the anime Angel Beats) as a 80’s hair band in a typical 80’s concert video. MTV is thirty-six years old as of today, and barely shows music anymore… but at the time (only five years old and at the peak of its cultural relevance) it was positively flooded with this type of band and video, and the AMV was instantly familiar. (Man, really showing my age here!)
Anyhow, I couldn’t resist sharing it.
For the curious and for reference, the original 1986 video can be seen here.
Restarting in midstream means there’s a lot to cover… So I’m going for a slightly different approach this week.
He’s going the distance
He’s going for speed
(I ended up dropping Prince of Stride, but it’s still a cool AMV.)
Rather than trying to cover every show in depth, this is going to be a quick and broad overview of the season to date. So, hit the jump and let’s get running!
I came across this the other day, and pretty much I’ve watched it at least once a day for last several, and I’ve been meaning to share here. Winner at Anime Boston’s AMV contest a couple of weeks back, it’s a stunning montage of the history of TV anime showing some of the most popular and influential shows of the last forty odd years. It’s telling that even if I haven’t seen many of the older anime shown, I still recognize them.
