Books and more books…

A couple of weeks back, I impulsively checked out a couple of books from the local library on traditional Japanese architecture.  (I have to drive right past it on my way to the grocery store…  so I stop by quite often.)  A little digging in their bibliographies and some things found on the web, a visit to the all-too-tempting interlibrary loan section of my library’s website…  and this happened:

Spring 2017 – Week 1

Whew Premiere Week (and some) is finally over. There’s a few keepers so far, but also quite a bit of out-and-out meh on track for a third ep drop… Which I really need to do if I want to cut back to a more manageable number this season.  Surprisingly, only one first ep drop this season!

Hit the jump and find out my thoughts, then leave yours in the comments! Continue reading “Spring 2017 – Week 1”

Stunning AMV…

I came across this the other day, and pretty much I’ve watched it at least once a day for last several, and I’ve been meaning to share here.  Winner at Anime Boston’s AMV contest a couple of weeks back, it’s a stunning montage of the history of TV anime showing some of the most popular and influential shows of the last forty odd years.  It’s telling that even if I haven’t seen many of the older anime shown, I still recognize them.

Let me know what you think down in the comments!

Spring 2017 – let the premieres begin!

As I sit here typing this, it’s trying to be spring outside…  Yay!   Meanwhile, we’ve had the first batch of premieres for the season and so far it’s looking pretty good.

So, hit the jump and let’s dive into the first batch!  Be sure and let me know what you think down in the comments.

Anime News Miscellany – 3/30/17

Three (anime related) things that happened yesterday and which I wrote up brief commentary on while not working on my season summary.  Fortunately, Maid Dragon is stretching into next week so I can justify giving myself a few more days to work on it.

After the jump, Ghibli, Gundam, and Amazon…

Hope Springs Eternal… Looking forward to Spring 2017.

A new anime season is like the opening of baseball season.  There’s a great feeling of anticipation.  Every show you’ve looked forward to is excellent.  There’s no disappointment…

With that in mind, hit the break and let’s take a look at the shows I’m anticipating in the coming weeks.  (And a few thoughts on how I’m going to blog the upcoming season.) Continue reading “Hope Springs Eternal… Looking forward to Spring 2017.”

Winter 2017 – Week 12. The finales begin…

Well… a busy, busy week as we swing into the penultimate and final episodes of the season.  Some shows close out strong, other just slink across the finish line…  and a couple just drop out of the race entirely.

Hit the jump and see what I thought, then let me know your thoughts down in the comments.  (Really the comments aren’t just about responding to me, they’re all about you and what you think!)

Rebuilding…

img_2001_1

Accidentally deleted my customizations yesterday, and didn’t realize it until this morning…  When I was restoring them I took the opportunity to fiddle a bit with the look.  (Specifically, I’d never changed from the default font and hadn’t really realized how awful it looked.)  I still have to repair some bits (like the links), but the sidebars are back.

What do you think?

Anyhow, thanks to the helpful Happiness Engineers at WordPress I also now know how to preview new themes without deleting my existing one.   Hopefully in my abundant spare time, I’ll get a chance to faff around with some new themes and develop a better look…  I picked this theme in kind of a hurry and I’ve never really been actually happy with it.

Speaking of abundant spare time, time to stop fiddling here…  There will be a lack of happiness in the domestic section of the Lounge if I don’t get the kitchen cleaned up and the potato salad for tonight’s dinner started.
